Jr. CNC Programmer / CAM Technician

Coastal Machine & Supply, Inc.Carencro, LA
$26 - $30Hybrid

About The Position

Coastal Machine & Supply is an AS9100-certified precision contract manufacturer specializing in large, complex turning and 5-axis milling for defense, space, and oil and gas programs. This role is an entry-level position within the programming group, designed as a development seat with a clear path to becoming a Programmer. The core responsibilities include preparing manufacturing models for machining, building tools in CAM, supporting the programming group, gaining hands-on experience on the production floor, and progressively taking on programming tasks under review. This is a development role, not a simple task-execution job, with advancement based on demonstrated capability.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, to understand callouts.
  • Working understanding of machining fundamentals (tool reach, stock importance, part holding rationale).
  • Either CNC machining experience (with a desire to move into programming) OR working CAM proficiency (ability to navigate CAM systems, manipulate solid models, and explain toolpaths).
  • Willingness to have work reviewed and corrected regularly.
  • Ability to take direction from multiple programmers and adapt to their working styles.

Nice To Haves

  • Mastercam experience.
  • Experience with large or complex turning, or 5-axis milling.
  • Technical or associate program with CAM coursework.
  • Experience in an AS9100, aerospace, defense, or oil and gas shop.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare manufacturing models for machining, considering stock, tolerance interpretation, and cutting methods.
  • Build tools in the CAM system under the direction of the owning programmer.
  • Support the programming group with model revisions, stock setup, and fixture geometry.
  • Spend scheduled time on the production floor to learn about part holding, setup procedures, and program rationale.
  • Write programs for simpler and repeat parts as capabilities develop, subject to review and release by the owning programmer.
  • Work within ProShop and adhere to the established pre-processing discipline.
