About The Position

Journeyman Ductline Mechanic (DLM) for Network Underground Services (NUS). Georgia Power's Network Underground Services (NUS) provides construction & maintenance services for the underground network electrical systems located in Metro Atlanta and other areas throughout Georgia. NUS provides a highly reliable electric service to High Profile Customers such as high-rise commercial and residential buildings, hospitals, government agencies and large businesses. This position is based out of Atlanta and requires availability to work within a certain distance of the assigned operating headquarters. No relocation assistance is available. The pre-employment testing will require up to 2 days of evaluations at the Network Underground Headquarters in Atlanta, GA. Lunch will be provided, plus an allowance for one night hotel accommodations with dinner for candidates outside of a commutable distance. There is no compensation for the pre-employment process and other travel expenses are the responsibility of the candidate. If selected, candidates are required to take a DOT physical and a POET physical, for which they will not be paid.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must have a basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electric utility industry required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Journeyman Ductline Mechanical or equivalent required.
  • Underground Network experience required.
  • Must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability by successfully completing the company’s pre-employment Ductline Mechanic Evaluation.
  • Experience with removal of concrete from ductline with energized secondary or primary cables is required.
  • Construction and maintenance of underground network systems is required.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of hand tools.
  • Skilled in the use of hydraulic and battery tools.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment directly related to underground network systems.
  • Ability to identify the need for application of cover-up in energized situations.
  • Ability to work in enclosed spaces such as machines, vaults, and tunnels where entry requires access by ladders.
  • Ability to work at heights on lifts, ladders, scaffolds, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair structures on the underground network system.
  • Knowledge of the underground network and high reliability distribution systems.
  • Ability to receive instructions, directions and translate into actions.
  • Pre-employment testing is required to demonstrate craft and knowledge.
  • Must be available for scheduled or emergency call out which could include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be available to travel outside of the state for storm restoration as needed.
  • Valid Class A CDL license is required.
  • Max weight – 270 lbs. fully clothed (includes hard hat and work boots) due to weight-restricted equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Distribution underground experience is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge and use of heavy equipment directly related to underground network systems is a plus.
  • Experience working outdoors with heavy equipment directly related to underground network systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all ductline related construction and maintenance for the underground network electrical systems and other high reliability distribution across the state of Georgia.
  • Receive training on construction and maintenance activities associated with Network & High Reliability Distribution systems, including operating procedures for all equipment involved (cranes, lifts, back-hoe, manhole/ductline installation equipment, etc.).
  • Work in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels where entry requires access by ladders, and work at heights in lifts, scaffolds, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the installation and maintenance of the underground network system, including manhole decking, manhole layout, removal of concrete on energized ductline, sump pump installation, excavation and shoring, concrete pouring and finishing.
  • Successfully complete additional training specific to Georgia Power and demonstrate the ability to perform each task during the 12-month probation period.
  • Working in an enclosed space.
  • Manhole and ductline installation.
  • Pouring concrete and flowable fill concrete.
  • Lowering and lifting 50-pounds or more while maintaining positive control.
  • Safely Operating/Driving Company Vehicles.
  • Removal of concrete from ductline with energized cable.
  • Operating heavy equipment (back-hoe, boom truck, forklift, or similar equipment).
  • Working in adverse conditions outdoors – day and night hours.
  • Available and accessible at least 50% of the time for emergencies which could include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Available for travel outside the state to support storm emergencies as needed.
