As a journeyman mechanic, you will perform advanced maintenance, repairs, and rebuilds on the county’s gas and diesel fleet both in the shop and in the field. You will use computerized diagnostics to troubleshoot complex malfunctions, conduct state safety inspections, and manage all vehicle systems, from hydraulics and transmissions to electrical and HVAC. Beyond mechanical work, you will design and fabricate specialized parts and hydraulic systems using MIG/stick welding, metal presses, and milling machines. This role includes building heavy equipment components like plows and buckets, maintaining shop inventory, and providing technical training to staff. You will also operate heavy machinery for transport and project assistance, ensuring all equipment meets peak safety and performance standards.
