About The Position

The Journeyman Machine Repair Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and rebuilds production and facility equipment used in a forging manufacturing environment. The role is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of forging presses, trim presses, induction heaters, furnaces, manipulators, conveyors, automated lubrication systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, material handling equipment, and associated support systems. The technician applies advanced mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, fabrication, welding, machining, and troubleshooting skills to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and support production objectives while complying with safety, quality, environmental, and company requirements. The position performs preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance; diagnoses equipment failures; executes major repairs and precision alignments; and supports reliability initiatives such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and root cause analysis. It also fabricates and repairs equipment components, operates manual machine shop equipment, and modifies machinery to improve reliability, safety, quality, and productivity.

  • Rigging and machinery installation experience.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Company, Local, State, Federal, MIOSHA, OSHA, and Environmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Use Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to isolate energy sources before maintenance activities.
  • Promote a safe workplace, identify unsafe conditions, participate in safety audits and hazard assessments, implement corrective actions, and maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain forging production equipment and support systems.
  • Install, remove, align, level, and commission production machinery and equipment.
  • Dismantle machinery to diagnose failures and perform major repairs; inspect for wear, damage, misalignment, vibration, overheating, leaks, and other abnormal conditions.
  • Repair and replace bearings, bushings, gearboxes, shafts, couplings, chains, sprockets, clutches, brakes, rollers, and other power transmission components.
  • Perform precision alignments using dial indicators, laser alignment tools, precision levels, and measuring instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and repair forging presses, trim presses, upsetters, induction heating systems, furnaces, conveyors, manipulators, automated lubrication systems, and material handling equipment.
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic presses and hydraulic power units; troubleshoot pneumatic systems and diagnose hydraulic and pneumatic failures using schematics, gauges, testing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
  • Install, repair, and replace hydraulic piping, tubing, hoses, fittings, pumps, cylinders, accumulators, manifolds, and valves; recharge and maintain accumulators according to requirements.
  • Install and maintain lubrication systems and follow proper equipment lubrication practices.
  • Perform emergency breakdown repairs and planned maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance; inspect critical equipment, recommend corrective actions, coordinate maintenance activities, and help maximize uptime and reliability.
  • Support vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and other predictive maintenance initiatives.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and assist with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Fabricate replacement parts, modifications, guards, platforms, fixtures, and tooling from blueprints, sketches, or engineering drawings.
  • Perform welding using approved processes and operate manual machine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, saws, drill presses, and grinders.
  • Repair or manufacture components when replacement parts are unavailable or cost prohibitive.
  • Modify equipment to improve reliability, safety, quality, and productivity.
