About The Position

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a Journey Level Electrician to perform skilled electrical work in the repair, maintenance, alteration, and construction of College facilities. This role involves installing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment across the school district, primarily at the Sylvania Campus but with work extending throughout the district. The position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 6 am to 2:30 pm. PCC is committed to making high-quality education accessible and contributing to the economic development of the community, serving approximately 80,000 students across four campuses and multiple centers.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
General Journeyman Electrician License is required.
Four years of journey-level commercial/industrial electrical maintenance and repair experience is required.
Must be able to distinguish color-coded cables.
Must have a valid driver's license for operation of a motor vehicle in Oregon and possess an acceptable driving record.
Must understand and perform work to the National Electrical Code.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated experience in a service work environment.
Experience with lighting control systems.
Experience with generator power distribution.
Experience in operating scissor lifts, boom lifts, and fork lifts.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics (Blueprints).

Responsibilities

Performs skilled electrical work in the repair, maintenance, alteration, and construction of College facilities.
Installs, repairs, services, and maintains electrical systems and equipment, including conduit, duct systems, lighting, power circuits, transformers, control equipment, switches, switchboards, fire and intrusion alarms, elevator controls, fixtures, and bell and buzzer systems.
Works from plans, drawings, blueprints, or specifications, and develops sketches or designs as appropriate.
Installs or replaces interior and exterior wiring for equipment, appliances, and lighting.
Installs and repairs electrical systems for lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
Replaces fuses.
Responds to electrical emergencies, assists in diagnosing outages and interruptions, and plans and performs corrective measures.
Prepares cost estimates for repairs and orders materials.
Diagnoses and resolves difficult electrical problems.
Observes and complies with all federal, state, and local electrical codes, and ensures safety procedures are followed.
Operates a variety of tools and power equipment, including saws, voltage testers, ohmmeters, and multimeters.
Coordinates the cleaning and maintenance of electrical equipment and dedicated electrical spaces, ensuring they are maintained in a safe and legal condition.
Coordinates the storage of electrical supplies and equipment in legal areas.
Provides work direction and guidance to other maintenance personnel as assigned.
Assists in other maintenance duties, such as troubleshooting and repairs related to air conditioning and plumbing from an electrical discipline perspective.
Responds to college emergencies and closures, including adverse weather, to ensure facilities are protected and operational.
Assists with tasks required for opening campuses after closures, such as snow and ice removal, and systems/equipment checks.
Operates a college vehicle and is responsible for its maintenance and safe operation.
Attends staff meetings and participates in problem-solving and discussions related to systems and projects.
