About The Position

Tri-State is a wholesale power supply cooperative, operating on a not-for-profit basis, with electric distribution cooperatives and public power district members in four states: Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming. Together with its members, Tri-State delivers reliable, affordable and responsible power and energy services to nearly a million electricity consumers across roughly 200,000 square miles of the West. Founded in 1952 by its member systems to provide a reliable, cost-based supply of electricity, Tri-State is now headquartered in Westminster, Colo., employing approximately 1,000 people across five states. Tri-State's electricity is generated from coal, natural gas, hydropower, wind, and solar. This power reaches members via a transmission system that includes substation facilities, telecommunications sites and almost 6,000 miles of high voltage transmission lines. Requirements

Successful completion of Tri-State’s Electronics Specialist Apprentice Program OR Eight (8) years of combined education and experience in electronic fields.
Technical training equivalent to an Associate Degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology with advanced studies in radio communications (including microwave) and digital systems (including microprocessors, peripheral equipment, and programming).
Six years of practical experience in maintenance of electronic telecommunications and digital systems.
One year of practical experience in maintenance of two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber optic and carrier systems.
One year of practical experience in maintenance of digital remote terminal units, microprocessors, and computer systems.
Ability to satisfactorily interpret electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and control logic.
Valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
First Aid and CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
Willingness to work in and around high voltages.
Willingness to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.
Ability to reside within 60 minutes response time from regular reporting location.
Willingness and ability to work extra and irregular hours, and under unusual or special working conditions (e.g., storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness).
Sufficient knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to work with small components, including fiber optic cables and connectors.
Ability to climb steel or wooden structures and work at various heights.

Responsibilities

Must have a satisfactory work record.
Must successfully pass the Tri-State Transmission “Telecom Qualification” Test with 75% or better score.
Requires successful completion of Tri-State’s Electronics Specialist Apprentice Program.
Eight (8) years of combined education and experience in electronic fields which consist of: The equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology with advance studies in radio communications (including microwave) and digital systems (including microprocessors, peripheral equipment, and programming); AND Six years of practical experience in maintenance of electronic telecommunications and digital systems, which must include one year of practical experience in maintenance of two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber optic and carrier systems, and one year of practical experience in maintenance of digital remote terminal units, microprocessors, and computer systems. Must be capable of satisfactorily interpreting electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and control logic.
Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain within 6 months, a valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions.
Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months of hire, and have the ability to perform First Aid and CPR.

Internal Bidder - The Transmission Joint Review Board (TJRB) may grant credit towards the term of apprenticeship to new apprentices who demonstrate previous acquisition of skills or knowledge equivalent to that which would be received under the Standards of Apprenticeship. Step one will be awarded unless indicated otherwise by the Transmission Joint Review Board. In order to be awarded a higher step, documentation must be submitted to the Transmission Joint Review Board for their consideration within thirty days of the effective start date.
