About The Position

Postmedia is seeking graduating students or recent graduates for a Summer Internship Journalist position. This is a full-time, temporary, remote role based in Moncton, New Brunswick. The intern will work with one of Postmedia's news teams, developing content for various platforms, uncovering stories using digital tools, cultivating sources, and collaborating with digital teams to create multimedia content. The role requires working under tight deadlines and may involve some weekend and statutory holiday work.

Requirements

• Graduating journalism school student or graduate, or a candidate from a related field.
• Ability to quickly layer and prioritize what needs to be done to quickly move up the job learning curve.
• Flexibility to work effectively in breaking news, features and short form, along with non-traditional story formats.
• Hunger to make the most of a chance to work in a daily newsroom with top-notch journalists.
• Eagerness to show what you can do to help by collaborating with colleagues.
• Natural curiosity, not satisfied with pat answers; always looking for hidden story angles.
• Talent, or developing one, for explanatory journalism.
• Interest not just in what happened or is happening, but also why and how, with the ability to concisely convey that added meaning to readers.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

• Newsroom experience is an asset.
• Experience and strength in video, podcast presentation and other digital tools is an asset.
• A valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are also assets.
• Bilingualism in English/French is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop content to engage audiences across several platforms tailored to meet the varying needs of web and mobile audiences.
• Have story ideas daily and the flexibility to quickly pivot to other newsroom priorities.
• Use social media and other digital tools to uncover breaking news and trending topics.
• Cultivate sources to break stories and help set the news agenda.
• Work with digital teams to create interactive content, including text, photo, video and other multimedia elements.
