About The Position

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is accepting applications for part-time Journalism Instructor positions at its colleges for the 2027 academic school year. Applicants may indicate which LACCD colleges interest them, and qualified applicants may be invited to interview with Media Arts/Communications Department members at one or more of the nine colleges. Assignments depend on enrollment, funding, and class availability. Successful candidates will teach journalism courses, collaborate and communicate professionally with students, staff, faculty, and administrators, and demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse community-college student population. Instructors should create engaging and inclusive learning environments and be culturally responsive in interactions with students, colleagues, and community members across varied languages, nationalities, ethnicities, socioeconomic levels, ages, identities, abilities, and educational experiences. Classes may be conducted in a virtual learning environment using Canvas or other remote-learning methods. The salary schedule begins at $86.85 per standard hour, with an office-hour differential of $20.31 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential. New employees must provide a medical certificate indicating fitness for administrative work, at their own expense, after selection and before employment. Employees must provide vaccination status under LACCD policy; they must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a current resume, contact information for three professional references, and copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Candidates invited to interview should be prepared to provide official transcripts. Degrees must be from an accredited U.S. college or university; foreign transcripts require an approved equivalency evaluation. Applications are submitted through LACCD's web-based application system; materials sent by fax, mail, or email are not accepted, and incomplete applications may be excluded. Employment is contingent on verification of qualifications. LACCD is an equal opportunity employer and educator.
