About The Position

The Jordan’s Principle Systems Navigator has primary responsibilities to act as a focal point for the children and families of Sagamok Anishnawbek. They will provide service coordination and planning in cooperation with internal and external agencies related to children and families. The Jordan’s Principle Systems Navigator functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies, procedures, and the Mission, Beliefs, and Vision of Sagamok Anishnawbek and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Post Secondary degree or diploma in Human Services and/or Social Work Field
  • Two (2) years experience coordinating and/or managing social programs and services
  • One (1) year direct service experience with children and families
  • Experience working with Anishnawbe people, organizations and communities
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including unplanned overtime.
  • Sign and maintain an annual oath of confidentiality.
  • Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
  • Must provide a criminal reference check prior to commencing employment.
  • Must have Class ‘G” Ontario Drivers License, and access to a vehicle with $1M automobile liability insurance coverage.
  • Ability to travel for work.
  • Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a focal point for the children and families of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
  • Provide service coordination and planning in cooperation with internal and external agencies related to children and families.
  • Apply all Jordan’s Principle service-related funding definitions.
  • Coordinate and plan applications to Jordan’s Principle in support of children and families of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
  • Familiarize self with all Department of Indigenous Services Canada documentation related to Jordan’s Principle.
  • Familiarize self with Community Jordan’s Principle service coordination and planning – service workflow.
  • Work in coordination with Sagamok Community within the community and outside the community to support service coordination and application for funding to address specific service and funding gaps in relation to children as per Jordan’s Principle eligibility criteria.
  • Act as liaison and provide education and information sessions to community and Sagamok Anishnawbek staff in relation to Jordan’s Principle.
  • Manage service-related data collection processes as defined by Program Manager – Jordan’s Principle.
  • Work in collaboration with the JP/CHRT Controller and Quality Assurance to ensure that all financial claims related to Jordan’s Principle are processed and managed according to agency policy and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with community-based Jordan’s Principle navigation for the support of Jordan’s Principle application on behalf of eligible children based on Jordan’s Principle eligibility criteria.
  • Prepare Jordan’s Principle applications for submission on behalf of children and families.
  • Facilitate of Jordan’s Principle approvals to ensure children and families are in receipt of services or goods approved by Jordan’s Principle.
  • Actively participate in internal, external, local, regional or committees/groups in support of coordinating programs and services to the First Nation.
  • Participate in internal or external committees as required or requested.
  • Liaison and work effectively with the communities served, service providers, collateral agencies and organizations, elders.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively at all levels to support the use of a family-centered, strengths-based, child-focussed practices while assisting families in building their capacities to provide safe and nurturing environments for children.
  • Demonstrate behaviours, actions and attitudes that are consistent with Sagamok Anishanwbeks vision, mission and values.
  • Provide opportunities for the enhancement and development of positive cultural identities of the children, families and communities served.
  • Ensure appropriate communication and consultation with Supervisor at appropriate times.
  • Ensure effective and professional communications with all internal and external service providers.
  • Share information accordingly to privacy and/or confidentiality guidelines.
  • Work respectfully, positively, professionally and collaboratively with team members.
  • Participate in cultural activities within the agency.
  • Follow the Seven Grandfather teachings as it relates to the position in line with the vision and mission of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
  • Actively attend and participate in regular Anishinawbe Aadziwin cultural trainingand/or activities provided by Sagamok Anishnawbek.
  • Ensure appropriate cultural opening when coordinating meetings both within the agency, for clients, families, communities and other collaterals.
  • Actively seek guidance from cultural staff how to incorporate cultural into the position or how to work from a cultural perspective.
  • Engage in learning and incorporating Anishnawbemowin language within the position.
