About The Position

An exciting opening for a Joining & Additive Materials Engineer has arisen. As the Joining & Additive Materials Engineer, you will be working in a dynamic, integrated product team delivering advanced joining and additive manufacturing solutions to Rolls-Royce globally across all business units. This is an opportunity to work within a rapidly growing technology field. The Joining and Additive Materials Engineer will be the corporate technical expert in joining and additive materials’ processes and systems and will drive innovation towards the future state of these technologies. This role will work within an integrated product team of design, materials, manufacturing and repair engineers to meet technology innovation, cost reduction and process improvement challenges on Rolls-Royce’s engine components. In this role, you will travel up to 10% domestically and up to 5% internationally.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or related degree and includes 2+ years of experience in materials joining and additive processes, OR Master’s degree in Welding Engineering or related degree, OR JD/PhD
Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident

Nice To Haves

Background and in-depth knowledge and experience in joining technologies, including: brazing (vacuum, atmospherically controlled, high temperature superalloys); welding (GTAW, Friction Stir & Inertia, Electron Beam, Laser, and Resistance)
Background and in-depth knowledge and experience in process parameter and toolpath development of additive technologies that include: Laser, Arc and EB Directed Energy Deposition powder and wire processes; Laser Powder Bed Fusion
Use of these technologies for gas turbine engine materials and components
Expert in high temperature materials characterization
Strong technical knowledge of additive and joining materials and their environmental, mechanical and functional properties and performance
Experience in technology development and capability readiness for related processes

Responsibilities

Lead development of novel joining and additive technologies, systems and architecture concepts across a global team of technical Engineers
Implement global technology strategies for joining and additive processes
Developing joining and additive solutions to meet application specific requirements
Engage with global technology centers, university partners, public-private entities like America Makes to create and support programs delivering our strategic priorities
Maintain a network of suppliers and capabilities to meet process development and manufacturing needs
Develop and guide global process improvement efforts across all businesses
Assess how technology solutions must fit into the components’ overall manufacturing or repair processing constraints
Develop and identify patentable Intellectual Property that supports and protects the company’s capability position
Write detailed technical reports documenting the work and outcomes of complex programs and activities
Engage with technical committees, such as the American Welding Society, to create and maintain industry specifications to achieve and protect the best interest of the company
Using knowledge to mentor and train the next generation of technologist
