The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC focuses on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units. The Additive Manufacturing Materials Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products.
Requirements
- The candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with material testing equipment.
- Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
- Typically requires a University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced Degree in a related field
- Hands on experience in a material testing environment
- Working understanding of AM processes
Nice To Haves
- Preferred candidates for this position will have an advanced degree in Materials Engineering or related technical field.
- A minimum 3.5 GPA is desirable.
- Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
- Experience with metal materials processed via laser powder bed fusion
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills and ability to work with complex worksheets
- Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
- Highly self-motivated and detail oriented
Responsibilities
- Support the timely execution of AM Material Qualification programs
- Ensure tasks from internal and external suppliers are executed per the requirements
- Oversee the curation of pedigreed process-structure-property (PSP) data into various software tools
- Support the continuous improvement of internally developed PSP software
- Elucidate underlying process-structure-property relationships for additively manufactured materials
- Coordinate fractography and non destructive testing
- Support the generation of monthly and quarterly reports
- Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to gain a deep understanding of and support the full value stream
- Work with RTX Business Units to understand and address their needs
