About The Position

The Jockey Truck Driver organizes trailers on-site using a Yard Jockey truck. The position may also require operating a forklift for part of the work. The role involves safely staging shipping loads in various weather conditions, inspecting and maintaining equipment, supporting production by loading and unloading trucks, and completing shipping documents and other required paperwork. The operator maintains radio contact with the base or supervisor for instructions and follows company safety, operating, and training requirements.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have completed a minimum of 12th-grade basic education.
At least 6 months of experience driving a commercial vehicle or yard jockey truck is required.
Working knowledge of vehicle parts and how to handle minor repairs to keep equipment in proper operating condition.
Must successfully complete the forklift driver licensing process within 4 months of hire.
Must be able to pass a driving test or skills evaluation in a yard jockey truck.

Responsibilities

Safely drive within the facility and stage shipping loads in various weather conditions.
Complete daily equipment inspection sheets and inspect equipment to ensure it is safe to operate.
Load and unload trucks as needed to assist production.
Secure loads or inspect them to ensure they are properly secured.
Perform duties consistently with applicable company rules.
Conduct preventive maintenance on the truck and keep it clean.
Maintain required shipping documents and verify their accuracy.
Maintain radio contact with the base or supervisor to receive instructions about trailers and loads to be moved.
Operate a forklift to load or unload trailers when required, following company forklift rules and policies.
Complete training as required by management.
Participate in safety programs and meetings.
Complete required paperwork and perform other duties as required.
