About The Position

This position is pivotal in supporting students with diverse learning needs within the community as they transition from the educational setting to the workforce and independent or supported living as an adult. The primary responsibility is to facilitate the learning of specific job skills, employability skills, work ethic, social awareness, independent living skills, community participation and community mobility with transition-age students. To provide guidance, training, and support to students with disabilities, empowering them to develop essential vocational and life skills and successfully integrate into the professional, community and home living settings. The focus of this support service is to empower students to gain and maintain independence as they transition to adult life.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years experience supporting school-aged students in building skills towards independence
  • Demonstrates competency in interpersonal relationships with adults and students
  • Knowledge of vocational training programs, job placement strategies, and accommodations for individuals with disabilities
  • Familiarity with social service agencies that support post-secondary needs, such as the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation & MH-IDD.
  • Ability to recognize and document the employability skills of students and provide appropriate job matches
  • Knowledge of and competency using basic computer programs such as Google and Microsoft Suites
