About The Position

This is a Winter Seasonal, Full-Time position within the JH Park department at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The JH Park Grooming Operator is responsible for operating snowcats and related equipment to maintain ski runs and terrain parks, ensuring safety and efficiency. The role requires a strong understanding of snow conditions, equipment operation, safety protocols, and the mountain layout. The operator will also assist with training, equipment maintenance, and other departmental needs as they arise.

Requirements

Ability to ski/snowboard all groomable terrain.
Thorough working knowledge of all aspects of snow grooming and the ability to convey this knowledge to other departments.
Thorough understanding of various types and models of snow cats and associated grooming equipment.
Thorough working knowledge of the mountain (names and locations of trails, traverses, lifts, and other facilities).
Thorough understanding of grooming priorities and the grooming patterns of each run on the mountain.
Ability to read and understand the J.H.M.R. Spill Prevention/Cleanup policies.
Knowledge of mountain areas requiring clearance during and after storms, potentially involving avalanche hazard reduction work.
Ability to work hours other than scheduled pertaining to weather conditions, if necessary.
Reliability, honesty, and punctuality.
Three or more years of experience.
Heavy and grooming equipment experience (front-end loaders, snow cats, and related equipment).

Responsibilities

Operate various snowcats and implements, including HP cutters, rail transport forks, and heavy equipment like loaders, skid steers, and all-terrain forklifts.
Read and understand all relevant manuals, including Seasonal Employee, Snow Grooming, and Grooming Equipment manuals.
Understand and perform all safety aspects of equipment operation.
Be aware of skiers/snowboarders on runs and traverses.
Be aware of fixed obstacles such as hydrants, manholes, and transformers.
Use lights and other warning equipment at all times.
Ensure equipment is in safe working order prior to and during use.
Report mechanical deficiencies of equipment immediately.
Record daily equipment use in vehicle logs concisely and completely.
Practice cost control while maintaining and improving operational efficiency.
Report all incidents (unusual occurrences) to the shift leader or P&P supervisor.
Possess the physical ability to work in a harsh winter environment, handle heavy objects, and perform manual labor.
Help other departments as the need arises.
Check equipment and report deficiencies to the supervisor or vehicle maintenance manager.
Keep equipment and work areas neat and clean.
Operate snowmobiles as directed by the JHMR Snowmobile Handbook.
Assist in training staff on safety practices while working around grooming equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
