About The Position

Senior Helpers Surrey East is looking for a Japanese-speaking Caregiver/Companion to join our team and provide compassionate, reliable support to seniors in their homes and communities. The ideal candidate is fluent in Japanese and English, enjoys connecting with older adults, and understands the importance of meaningful conversation, companionship, and culturally appropriate support.

Requirements

• Fluent in spoken Japanese and English.
• Patient, compassionate, reliable, and personable.
• Comfortable working independently in a client's home.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid criminal record check and TB test
• First Aide Certification

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with seniors is an asset.
• Caregiving, HCA, PSW or similar experience is an asset.
• Warm, friendly, and naturally conversational.
• Comfortable communicating in Japanese.
• Respectful and culturally sensitive.
• Patient and attentive to individual client preferences.
• Reliable and committed to providing consistent, high-quality care.
• Someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with older adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and friendly conversation in Japanese and English.
• Engage clients in activities that are meaningful and enjoyable to them.
• Encourage social interaction and mental stimulation through conversation, games, reading, music, walks, and other activities.
• Accompany clients on walks, outings, appointments, shopping, and other activities as required.
• Assist with light meal preparation and household tasks as needed.
• Provide reminders and support with daily routines.
• Observe and report changes in a client's physical, cognitive, or emotional well-being.
• Maintain a respectful, professional, and compassionate relationship with clients and their families.
• Support clients in maintaining their independence, dignity, and quality of life.
