About The Position
The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) invites applications for a Term Janitor position at Felix Marchand Education Centre. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to deliver the public school program with a focus on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE serves approximately 5,948 students across 20 schools and 375 children in pre-primary programs at 14 locations, supported by approximately 1,166 employees. The jurisdiction covers the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond in northeastern Nova Scotia.
Requirements
- Experience and training in commercial cleaning methods and procedures, general repair and grounds keeping.
- Ability to perform all the duties of this position.
- Current WHMIS certification.
- Current First Aid Certification or willing to obtain.
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both the written and oral form.
- Willingness to work as part of the school support team.
- Ability to arm and disarm the building security system in an unsupervised setting.
Responsibilities
- Clean, on a daily basis, all assigned areas of the school in accordance with established practices and standards.
- Obtain and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to carry out duties and responsibilities.
- Report any breakdowns, accidents, damage or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor.
- Secure all doors and windows whenever the building is vacated and activate security system if last person to vacate building.
- Perform floor care duties, such as stripping, sealing, waxing, burnishing, etc.
- Perform snow and ice control duties as needed.
- Pick up litter and trash from yards, driveways, parking lots and walkways on an ongoing basis with general clean-ups.
- Perform duties in compliance with school, Operations Department, and SRCE policies and procedures including occupational health, safety, attendance, work routines, WHMIS, and evacuation plans and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia.
- Arm and unarm the building security system.
- Other related duties as assigned.
