About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for a Term Janitor position at Felix Marchand Education Centre. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The Centre operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students and 375 children in pre-primary programs across four counties. This position is part of the CUPE Local 955 job classification and offers a work schedule of 4 hours per day.

Requirements

• Experience and training in commercial cleaning methods and procedures, general repair and grounds keeping
• Ability to perform all the duties of this position
• Current WHMIS certification
• Current First Aid Certification or willing to obtain
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in both the written and oral form
• Willingness to work as part of the school support team
• Ability to arm and disarm the building security system in an unsupervised setting

Responsibilities

• Clean, on a daily basis, all assigned areas of the school in accordance with established practices and standards
• Obtain and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to carry out duties and responsibilities
• Report any breakdowns, accidents, damage or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor
• Secure all doors and windows whenever the building is vacated and activate security system if last person to vacate building
• Perform floor care duties, such as stripping, sealing, waxing, burnishing, etc.
• Perform snow and ice control duties as needed
• Pick up litter and trash from yards, driveways, parking lots and walkways on an ongoing basis with general clean-ups
• Perform duties in compliance with school, Operations Department, and SRCE policies and procedures including occupational health, safety, attendance, work routines, WHMIS, and evacuation plans and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia
• Arm and unarm the building security system
• Other related duties as assigned
