About The Position

Maarif School is accepting applications for a full-time janitor for the 2027–2028 academic year at its new campus in Wayne, New Jersey. The role maintains the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of school facilities to support a healthy, organized environment for students, staff, and visitors. The position includes routine and periodic cleaning, responding to unexpected cleaning needs, supporting school events and seasonal preparations, and performing minor authorized maintenance tasks when trained. Candidates should be dependable, hardworking, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while cooperating with school staff. Maarif School is a Pre-K through 12th private school operating under the auspices of the Maarif Foundation USA. Its curriculum covers core subjects as well as Turkish, Arabic, Islamic studies, and Qur’an, and the school emphasizes student achievement, social and emotional learning, community service, leadership, compassion, and respect.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous janitorial, custodial, or building maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment, including vacuums and floor-cleaning machines.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage assigned tasks efficiently.
Dependable and punctual, with the ability to work independently while following instructions.
Good communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with school staff.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Availability to work assigned shifts and assist with occasional school events or special cleaning needs.
Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Custodial experience in a school, childcare facility, or similar environment.
Experience operating commercial cleaning and floor-maintenance equipment.
Familiarity with sanitation procedures, workplace safety, and chemical storage.
Basic building maintenance and minor repair skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to unexpected facility needs.
Experience assisting with school events and seasonal facility preparation.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and common areas.
Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and removing trash.
Maintain restroom cleanliness and replenish soap, paper products, and other supplies.
Clean windows, doors, furniture, floors, and other surfaces according to established schedules.
Perform periodic deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, and floor maintenance.
Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and unexpected cleaning needs.
Follow sanitation, infection-control, and workplace safety procedures.
Inspect facilities and report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, and safety hazards.
Perform minor authorized maintenance tasks and basic facility repairs when trained.
Assist with room setups, cleaning, and preparations for school events and meetings.
Support seasonal cleaning projects and prepare the school before and after the academic year.
Properly store and secure cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
Assist with securing designated building areas according to school procedures.
Maintain cleaning records and report supply needs when required.
Work collaboratively with school administration and staff to maintain a clean and organized campus.
Perform other custodial and facility-related duties as assigned.
