Janitor- NYS Contract Services
About The Position
JM Murray holds a contract partnership with New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) and is looking for a dependable, self-starter with a strong work ethic and keen eye for detail to join their janitorial team in Whitney Point. This is a part-time position, up to 15 hours per week, with a rotating schedule on the 2nd shift (3pm-11pm). The company's mission is to offer people with disabilities opportunities for legitimate employment, skill development, improved self-esteem, and enriched lives. The janitorial team is responsible for maintaining restrooms, common areas, and grounds to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and guests. The ideal candidate will be experienced, detail-oriented, and able to work with their supervisor and peers to complete daily tasks inside and outside while adhering to all guidelines and regulations.
Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- HS Diploma or GED.
- 1 year experience in a production environment preferred.
- Basic reading and comprehension skills and the ability to follow written instructions.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Attention to detail with the ability to problem solve and prioritize individual work loads.
- Ability to work both as part of a team, and independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (hot/cold/rain/snow).
- Ability to interact with the general public in a positive manner.
- Must be able to stand to operate equipment; mobility to embark and disembark from equipment.
- Must be able to work in an environment that includes noise, cold, heat, and odors.
- Must be able to work in a position requiring exposure to weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift unaided, at least 10lbs.
- Must be able to lift unaided, from 11-30lbs.
- Must be able to lift unaided, from 31-70lbs.
- Must be able to write, type, and use office and/or other equipment and handle materials.
Nice To Haves
- Prior commercial cleaning experience preferred, willing to train the right individual.
Responsibilities
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality to perform tasks related to daily production demands.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations; wears and/or uses required protective equipment; immediately reports any safety concerns or unsafe working conditions.
- Conducts all aspects of job responsibilities in compliance with JM Murray policies and procedures, professional standards, and applicable governmental laws, regulations, rules, and standards.
- Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas including restrooms, eating areas, and common work spaces.
- Completes tasks including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping of general office space, lobbies, waiting areas, and common areas.
- Completes cleaning of windows and entrance doors.
- Operates equipment including shop vac, auto floor scrubber (with training), broom, and dust pan. Seasonal equipment may include leaf blower, push lawn mower, shovel, weed eater, push behind snow blower, and tractor with snow brushes (with training).
- Uses cleaning chemicals and completes cleaning/sanitizing according to Company standards and procedures.
- Performs physical inventories, audits, and reconciles all stock of materials.
- Maintains a stocked and clutter-free storage area.
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion of assigned accounts and work spaces.
- Removes trash and recyclable materials to the proper location in a timely manner.
- Represents JM Murray in a positive manner, treating people with dignity and respect.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintains restrooms, common areas, and grounds (including light grounds keeping and snow removal).
