Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Metallurgy, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Chemical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement, quality control, data analysis, or manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to work at hand.
  • Ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.
  • Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectations are met.
  • Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options to choose the most appropriate solution.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal oversight.
  • Displays responsibility, reliability, is committed to fulfilling work obligations and can hold others accountable for desired results.
  • Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues such as teamwork, building relationships, initiating and supporting change, and production process issues that arise. This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict head on.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years industrial engineering experience
  • 5 years of working experience in one of the degree fields above
  • Experience in relevant steelmaking processes

Responsibilities

  • Developing and optimizing operating procedures and product development
  • Leading quality improvement efforts/minimizing variability in the steelmaking process
  • Developing grades for specialized applications
  • Providing training to operating personnel
  • Providing metallurgical assistance to technical service representatives and customers
  • Analyzing production and quality data to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction
  • Collaborating with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to improve safety, productivity, quality, and yield throughout the mill
  • May be involved in many areas of NYS’ operations and may be assigned to specific area(s) of operations, such as quality, sales, roll mill, and/or meltshop
  • Upholding safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards to make safety the highest value at all times
