About The Position

Performs a full range of cleaning and maintenance tasks in a designated area using standard janitorial tools and heavy industrial-type equipment. Work is assigned with specific oral or written instructions from a supervisor or crew leader and is reviewed frequently for cleanliness and performance. The janitor maintains an assigned area in an orderly, clean condition and sets a schedule and sequence for completing tasks at the required frequency. The position includes floor care; cleaning offices, hallways, restrooms, windows, doors, rugs, fixtures, and other surfaces; maintaining and making minor repairs to cleaning equipment; and moving furniture, supplies, and equipment. Work is performed indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. There is occasional exposure to skin irritation from strong cleaning solutions, and a risk of serious injury from electrical shocks or falls from ladders or scaffolds.

Requirements

Six months of experience performing cleaning tasks using standard or janitorial cleaning tools or industrial-type cleaning equipment.
Moderately heavy physical effort, including occasionally moving, setting up, and working from ladders and scaffolds.
Frequently lift and move objects weighing about 40 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Maintain an assigned area in an orderly and clean condition, setting a schedule and sequence for tasks.
Scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial-type cleaning equipment; sweep floors and hallways and empty garbage.
Dust office furniture, empty ash trays, shampoo rugs, clean air vents, and disinfect and deodorize toilets and lavatories.
Wash and replace venetian blinds and wash ceiling fixtures; change light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds.
Clean, maintain, and adjust machines and equipment; report malfunctions to the supervisor and perform minor equipment repairs.
Remove stains from rugs, drapes, walls, floors, and fixtures using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
Move heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment.
Clean windows and doors inside and out at ground levels.
May operate a motor vehicle on a limited basis while performing assigned duties.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
