Janitor
About The Position
The Janitor keeps building premises clean and orderly. The position performs cleaning and maintenance duties in rooms, halls, lobbies, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas. The role may also include grounds work, delivering messages, moving small equipment or tools, and setting up tables and chairs. The position requires the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, read and interpret safety and operating materials, write routine reports and correspondence, communicate effectively, and follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Requirements
- Less than high school education; or up to one month of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Demonstrates problem solving, customer service, oral and written communication, teamwork, ethics, judgment, professionalism, quality, safety and security, adaptability, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Clean and polish lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
- Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
- Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
- Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
- Dust furniture and equipment.
- Polish metalwork.
- Wash walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
- Wash windows, door panels, and sills.
- Empty wastebaskets and empty and clean ashtrays.
- Transport trash and waste to the disposal area.
- Replenish bathroom supplies.
- Replace light bulbs.
- Cut and trim grass and shovel snow when required by the site contract.
- May deliver messages.
- Transport small equipment or tools between departments.
- May set up tables and chairs in an auditorium or hall.
