About The Position

A janitor is responsible for keeping the workplace clean, organized, and disinfected. The role involves cleaning the interiors of buildings and maintaining floors, furnishings, restrooms, windows, and shared areas. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The work environment may occasionally involve proximity to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, electrical-shock risk, and vibration. Noise is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Requirements

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Demonstrates consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Follows instructions and management direction, takes responsibility for actions, and keeps commitments.
• Completes tasks on time or notifies the appropriate person with an alternate plan.
• Observes safety and security procedures, reports potentially unsafe conditions, and uses equipment and materials properly.

Responsibilities

• Clean building interiors, including floors, carpets, rugs, windows, walls, and other areas.
• Vacuum, sweep, and mop offices, rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, elevators, stairs, locker rooms, and other work areas.
• Remove stains from chairs and upholstered furniture.
• Dust furniture, lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and moldings.
• Empty and clean trash cans and ashtrays.
• Disinfect commonly used items such as desks, door handles, office tools, and phones.
• Clean and maintain restrooms and replenish supplies there and in other required areas.
• Wash and clean windows and mirrors.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and take them to the disposal area.
• Remove trash and snow from sidewalks when necessary.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request missing materials from supervisors when applicable.
• Notify supervisors of unsafe conditions or conditions requiring maintenance.
• Maintain a cleaning chart showing areas cleaned and inspected.
• Follow safety and precautionary rules.
• Close doors at the end of the night shift.
