About The Position

The Retail Janitor maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming Goodwill of Colorado retail store or outlet, ensuring assigned spaces meet or exceed the organization’s hygiene and presentation standards while providing courteous customer service. The role performs assigned janitorial duties and may take on additional responsibilities as required.

Duties include cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, employee break areas, and public areas; cleaning glass and mirrors; sweeping and mopping floors; vacuuming or steam-cleaning carpets; dusting furniture and fixtures; polishing fixtures; removing marks and stains; and performing floor maintenance such as waxing, buffing, stripping, and top scrubbing when required. The employee removes trash, follows Goodwill and OSHA safety protocols for chemical use and waste disposal, and may mix cleaning agents according to standards. When needed, the employee may move heavy furniture or clear snow and ice from sidewalks and apply salt.

The position requires collaboration with the team, courteous assistance directing customers, prompt reporting of missing or damaged items and maintenance needs, adherence to Goodwill policies and procedures, and contributing to a safe environment. Concerns should be escalated to store management in a timely manner. The job may involve prolonged standing, bending, and lifting, and a varied schedule that can include weekends, evenings, holidays, and occasional overtime.

Requirements

• Must be able to read and understand directions for using and properly disposing of cleaning solutions.
• Must be able to follow Goodwill and OSHA safety protocols for chemical use and waste disposal.
• Must be able to stay on track and complete duties in a timely manner.
• Must be able to withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting for up to eight hours per day.
• Must be able to work a varied schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays, with occasional overtime as necessary.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
• Physical demands include occasional lifting and carrying of heavy items (45 pounds and over) and moderate items (15–44 pounds), frequent lifting and carrying of light items (14 pounds and under), frequent pushing and pulling, reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling or crawling, squatting, walking, standing, and speaking; occasional stair and ladder climbing.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of previous custodial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect restrooms, employee break areas, and public areas in the assigned retail store or outlet.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaners and equipment.
• Sweep and mop floors to address slip, trip, and fall hazards.
• When required, vacuum and steam-clean carpets and rugs, dust furniture, polish fixtures, and remove marks or stains from walls and other surfaces.
• Clean and dust store fixtures as required.
• When required, apply floor wax or sealant and buff, strip, or top scrub floors.
• Remove trash from offices, restrooms, and other areas in and around the store.
• Follow Goodwill and OSHA safety protocols for chemical use and waste disposal, including mixing cleaning agents according to standards.
• Move heavy furniture when required to clean surrounding areas.
• When required, shovel snow or ice from sidewalks and apply salt to reduce slip, trip, and fall hazards.
• Collaborate with the team and direct customers to the appropriate department or team member when needed.
• Promptly report missing or damaged items and maintenance needs.
• Follow Goodwill policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
• Contribute to a safe working environment for employees and customers, and escalate issues or concerns to store management in a timely manner.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.
