About The Position

The JAG teacher is responsible for providing relevant and challenging classroom and work-based learning experiences for students who are committed to developing their personal, leadership and employability skills to ensure graduation from high school and positive post-graduate outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; field of study correlated to teaching assignment as a JAG teacher with the appropriate licensure code number of 413 or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
  • Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches skills, knowledge and understanding by utilizing course guidelines aligned with Arkansas teaching/learning standards and other appropriate curriculum pacing guides in teaching individual course content.
  • Determines eligibility using local, JAG, state/federal regulations which impact the program.
  • Provides guidance, support, referral and tutorial services to ensure students stay in high school and complete graduation requirements.
  • Provides a comprehensive program of classroom, work-based and community-based activities designed to help students achieve thirty-seven (37) JAG competencies in six (6) clusters: Career Development, Job Survival, Basic Skills, Leadership and Self-Development and Personal Skills.
  • Maintains relationships with local employers to properly place students in the workforce.
  • Visits the students and employers at the work sites at least once each nine-weeks. Monthly is preferred.
  • Updates the JAG database every two days or two to three times per week. This includes the post graduation visits.
  • Develops and uses ongoing assessments to monitor student progress, and make adjustments to curriculum and instruction where needed to enhance the learning process.
  • Maintains all required records regarding student participation, inventory, and other CTE required documents for the Technical Assistance Visit (TAV).
  • Actively participates in student youth organizations.
  • Submits all appropriate reports for Career Education to the ACE (AR Dept of Career Ed) prior to all deadlines.
  • Participates in the professional organization.
  • Maintains all career education required certificates.
  • Maintains an advisory committee.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in and out-of-classroom during the assigned school day.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
