About The Position

Utah First Credit Union is seeking a technically fluent, business-minded IT Technical Product Owner to join our Information Technology team in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week). Reporting to the Technical Product Manager, this role will define and execute product strategy for Utah First's technology platforms. The IT Technical Product Owner position is an on-site position based at Utah First Credit Union's corporate headquarters in downtown Salt Lake City. Regular in-person presence is expected to collaborate effectively with business leaders, technology teams, and external partners. IT Technical Product Owner serves as the bridge between business strategy and technical execution. The Technical Product Owner will translate organizational priorities into actionable roadmaps, specifications, and measurable outcomes while balancing innovation with reliability, scalability, security, and regulatory expectations. The IT Technical Product Owner owns the vision, strategy, roadmap, and delivery outcomes for a subset of Utah First's technology products. Working across business units, internal technology teams, engineering resources, and third-party vendors, this leader will convert business objectives into clear technical requirements and prioritized work. The IT Technical Product Owner is accountable for making informed tradeoffs among new capabilities, technical debt, scalability, system performance, risk, and member impact. The successful candidate will combine product leadership, technical judgment, analytical discipline, and strong communication skills. This person will operate independently in a lean environment, and drive progress through productive partnerships with internal and external delivery teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience managing the product lifecycle from concept and beta testing through launch, adoption, optimization, and scale.
  • Experience with data analytics platforms required; PowerBI and FiWyse experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of software development principles, system architecture, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines; coding proficiency is a plus but is not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized product backlogs.
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis, product and performance metrics, experimentation, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with business leaders, operational teams, engineers, and external vendors.
  • Independent, resourceful self-starter who can learn quickly, make sound decisions, and maintain progress in a lean environment with minimal direct supervision.

  • Experience with Jack Henry Banno Digital/Mobile Banking, Jack Henry Business Digital Banking, Alkami Positive Pay, MeridanLink, LoanPro, Velera, Fedline, Quavo, ADP, Oak Tree Business Systems, FastDocs, or platforms with similar functions strongly preferred.
  • Community Financial Institution, Processor/PSP, or FinTech experience strongly preferred.
  • Coding proficiency is a plus but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Define the technical product vision, strategy, and roadmap, aligning internal engineering efforts and third-party technology vendor deliverables with Utah First's business goals.
  • Create, own, prioritize, and refine the product backlog for a subset of Utah First's technology platforms, balancing feature requests with technical debt, scalability, system performance, risk, and operational needs.
  • Translate business objectives into precise technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and architectural requirements for internal engineering teams and third-party technology vendors.
  • Evaluate technical constraints, validate system design decisions, and oversee integrations and technology-stack compatibility to support stable, scalable solutions.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks, information-security and compliance considerations, quality concerns, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Define success metrics, analyze product and operational data, conduct appropriate experiments such as A/B tests, and use database queries or reporting tools to evaluate performance and inform priorities.
