Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the IT System Technician II provides technical support for the City’s IT systems, focusing on mobile device management, workstation deployment, and IT troubleshooting. This position assists with maintaining the City's networks, supporting end-user devices, and working with vendors and IT staff to implement and maintain technology solutions. Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience providing computer, desktop, mobile device, or IT technical support
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
  • Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may be substituted for the above requirements.
  • Execution of a confidentiality agreement required.
  • Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical examination, fingerprinting, background examination.
  • Applicant must pass a (BCA) Bureau of Criminal Apprehension background check and successfully pass the required BCA Criminal Justice Information Services Security Awareness Training test.
  • Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
  • Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain workstations, laptops, mobile devices, and associated hardware and software in support of City operations.
  • Provide frontline technical support and troubleshooting for desktop, mobile, and peripheral devices across the organization.
  • Manage and support mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) using Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
  • Assist with the maintenance and support of wired and wireless networks, including switches, access points, and firewalls, under the direction of senior IT staff.
  • Support the installation, operation, and troubleshooting of VoIP phone systems, printers, copiers, and audio/visual systems in City facilities.
  • Assist with user account setup and maintenance in Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and related email platforms.
  • Implement operating system, application, and security updates for endpoints and supported devices.
  • Provide first-contact help desk support, resolving issues when possible and escalating complex matters as appropriate.
  • Participate in IT inventory tracking and asset management, including device lifecycle support.
  • Assist with technology project rollouts and system upgrades, working with IT staff and vendors as directed.
  • Follow data practices and security requirements, ensuring proper handling and protection of non-public data encountered during assigned duties.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity for systems and applications under assigned responsibility, including availability outside of normal business hours as scheduled.
  • Maintain basic technical documentation related to device setup, procedures, and support activities as required.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including training and education, to maintain and enhance technical skills.
  • Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
  • Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
  • Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and community customers.
  • Performs other related work as assigned or apparent.

Benefits

  • The 2026 starting rate of pay is $30.47 - $33.43 per hour with advancement to $42.71 per hour.
