About The Position

The IT Systems Support Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive end-user support, managing service desk requests, and performing routine administration and maintenance of the company's IT systems. The position serves as a primary point of contact for day-to-day IT support while also assisting with the administration, maintenance, security, and reliability of the company's Windows-based infrastructure. The position is approximately 60% service desk and end-user support, 30% systems administration and maintenance, and 10% IT projects and documentation. Systems administration responsibilities are primarily focused on maintaining the existing environment, including monthly patching, updates, monitoring, troubleshooting, backups, and routine administration rather than designing or building new infrastructure. This is an on-site position based in Birmingham, Alabama, with occasional travel to company locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems, hardware, software installation, troubleshooting, and general end-user support.
  • Hands-on experience administering Windows Server environments, including routine maintenance, patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V administration, including virtual machine management, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, including users, computers, groups, permissions, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
  • Experience administering and supporting Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, Intune, and Teams.
  • Experience deploying and managing Windows computers.
  • Experience monitoring backups, troubleshooting failures, and performing restores.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi, VPNs, switches, firewalls, and general network troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell for Windows, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 administration, and automation of repetitive IT tasks.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent technical training and relevant work experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible IT support, desktop support, systems support, or systems administration experience.
  • Experience supporting users and IT systems in a multi-location or manufacturing environment is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • A+, Network+, Microsoft, or other relevant IT certifications are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, prioritize, and resolve service desk requests.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for employees, including computers, applications, printers, mobile devices, Microsoft 365, connectivity, and other technology issues.
  • Create, modify, and disable user accounts and access.
  • Administer Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, security groups, permissions, and related systems.
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows workstations and other endpoint devices.
  • Assist with Microsoft Intune administration, software deployment, security policies, and device compliance.
  • Perform routine administration, monitoring, monthly patching, updates, and troubleshooting of Windows Server systems.
  • Perform routine administration and maintenance of Microsoft Hyper-V hosts and virtual machines, including monitoring, patching, troubleshooting, and basic virtual machine management.
  • Support and administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Entra ID, Intune, Teams, and related applications.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity and assist with the administration of switches, firewalls, wireless networks, VPN connectivity, DHCP, DNS, and related network services.
  • Monitor backup jobs, troubleshoot backup failures, perform restores, and participate in routine testing of backup and recovery procedures.
  • Perform scheduled operating system and application updates, monitor system health, remediate issues, and assist with larger system upgrades and infrastructure projects as needed.
  • Follow and help enforce IT security standards and best practices.
  • Assist with endpoint security, account security, vulnerability remediation, patching, access control, and other security initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for IT procedures, system configurations, support processes, equipment, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Participate in IT projects involving endpoints, Microsoft 365, servers, networking, applications, security, and other technology improvements.
