IT Systems Engineer, Client Platform Engineer, ChromeOS

Anthropic•San Francisco, NY

About The Position

Anthropic is hiring an IT Systems Engineer to own ChromeOS as a supported endpoint platform for its vendor and business process outsourcing (BPO) partners, and to help bring Android in as a second platform. The Endpoint team treats its device fleet as a distributed platform, with configuration managed as code through pull requests, CI, staging, and canary rollouts. ChromeOS devices issued to vendor staff are becoming the default devices for vendor teams, and this role will define the platform and its operational practices as those programs expand across countries and vendors. The role owns ChromeOS end to end, from device standards, purchasing, and enrollment through policy, monitoring, lifecycle management, and retirement. It includes building international zero-touch enrollment, selecting and securing device models for vendor programs, integrating device telemetry, and partnering with IT Operations, procurement, and Corporate Security. The engineer will also support Android Enterprise and zero-touch enrollment, develop operational runbooks, and contribute to configuration-as-code and progressively rolled-out endpoint management practices. The position requires a relevant bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. The required years of experience correlate with the internal job level. The role follows a location-based hybrid policy: staff are currently expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more. Visa sponsorship may be available, subject to role and candidate circumstances.

Requirements

  • Have owned ChromeOS as a platform for a fleet of thousands of devices.
  • Know the Google Admin console and Chrome Enterprise, including organizational unit design, device and user policy, enrollment, and reporting.
  • Have automated ChromeOS policy through the Chrome Policy API or GAM.
  • Have run kiosk, managed guest, or shared-device programs for frontline, contact center, or outsourced teams.
  • Have set up zero-touch enrollment with resellers and shipped devices across several countries.
  • Have worked with Android device management and be able to contribute in a mixed fleet.
  • Excel at ambiguous problems that involve several teams.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to any audience, including vendor partners.
  • Apply product-engineering rigor to IT Engineering.
  • Write clear documentation as a natural part of the workflow.
  • Have Python and shell scripting skills.
  • Have ChromeOS management experience through Google Admin console and Chrome Enterprise.
  • Have experience with Google Admin SDK, Chrome Policy API, and GAM for automating policy and reporting.
  • Have working knowledge of Android Enterprise management.
  • Be able to query live device state at fleet scale.
  • Have knowledge of GitOps and CI for configuration management.
  • Have endpoint security fundamentals.
  • Have a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Have a field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Manage device configuration as code through pull requests, CI, and staged rollout rather than console-based changes.
  • Have managed ChromeOS alongside macOS or mobile fleets.
  • Have used VDI or browser-based access to keep data off devices used by outsourced teams.
  • Have supported BPO or vendor programs through rapid growth into new regions.
  • Have built automated progressive-rollout systems with promotion gated on telemetry.
  • Have used LLMs to automate operational work or be excited to make Claude a teammate.

Responsibilities

  • Own ChromeOS as a platform at Anthropic, including device standards, Google Admin console and Chrome Enterprise setup, organizational unit design, and policy.
  • Manage ChromeOS policy as code through the Chrome Policy API, GAM, and Terraform in the configuration-as-code pipeline, with reviewed, tested, and progressively rolled-out changes.
  • Build zero-touch enrollment through resellers so devices arrive enrolled and ready to use in countries where vendor partners operate.
  • Coordinate device purchasing and international shipping with IT Operations and procurement partners.
  • Design device models for vendor teams, including kiosk, managed guest session, shared, and assigned devices, and select the right model for each program.
  • Apply device restrictions appropriate to each program, including controls for copy and paste, downloads, printing, USB, apps, and extensions.
  • Own vendor fleet device lifecycle processes, including enrollment, wiping, locking, and retrieval when an engagement ends.
  • Integrate ChromeOS device data into fleet telemetry, tracking check-ins, OS versions, and drift between expected and actual state.
  • Partner with Corporate Security on hardware standards, device trust signals, and access decisions, including Verified Access attestation and minimum AUE dates.
  • Work with Security on the contractor access model and measures to keep Anthropic data off vendor devices.
  • Run data loss controls through Chrome Enterprise Premium.
  • Work with Security on the vendor identity model, including which accounts vendor staff use and in which tenant.
  • Support Android as a second platform, working with the corporate mobile program on Android Enterprise and zero-touch enrollment.
  • Write runbooks for IT Operations and vendor partners to use when standing up new programs.
