Helpdesk / IT Systems Engineer - Okta

Simplex•Austin, TX

About The Position

This is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX. The role is on-site Tuesday through Thursday, with occasional additional in-office days as needed, so candidates must be local to Austin. For this opportunity, you'll work with a successful, scaling healthcare organization and one of the most competent leaders we have worked with. We're looking for a polished, service-minded IT Systems Engineer to deliver high-touch, high-reliability support across the business, with a particular focus on the executive team. This is not a tier-one help desk role. You'll serve as the go-to IT partner for the C-suite, bringing a concierge-style approach to every interaction while also supporting employees across the company, both on-site and remote. You'll be responsible for a seamless support experience across users, devices, identity and access, AV and conferencing systems, office infrastructure, and SaaS platforms. The role blends hands-on technical systems work, primarily Mac, Windows, Okta, Jamf, Google Workspace, and Zoom, with exceptional customer service. Our client is a mission-driven company operating in a HIPAA-regulated space, so attention to detail and discretion are essential.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of commercial IT systems support experience beyond the help desk level, ideally including executive or VIP support.
  • Hands-on Okta administration experience is critical. Experience limited to Active Directory or Google Directory is not a substitute.
  • Experience with Jamf and managing macOS environments, plus strong Windows experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience is required.
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and cloud-based collaboration tools.
  • Hands-on experience supporting AV equipment, Zoom Rooms, and conference room systems.
  • Working knowledge of networking hardware, firewalls, and physical access systems such as badge readers.
  • A concierge, service-first mindset: friendly, polished, and composed no matter how issues come in.
  • Impeccable communication skills, especially with senior leaders, and a habit of keeping users updated proactively.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Clear understanding of IT operations in security-conscious environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary IT liaison for the C-suite, providing white-glove support and making sure executives have everything they need to work without interruption.
  • Administer and support the user base on Mac and Windows, both in the Austin office and remotely.
  • Manage identity and access in Okta, including granting, modifying, and revoking access across systems.
  • Own onboarding and offboarding, including equipment provisioning, account setup and deprovisioning, and welcome orientation.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain employee laptops, ensuring compliance through Jamf.
  • Support and maintain conference room systems and Zoom Rooms integrated with Zoom and Google Meet for hybrid meetings, events, and executive communications.
  • Support office networking hardware, firewalls, and badge reader/access control systems.
  • Triage and resolve IT tickets via the help desk system, Slack, Zoom, phone, and email, prioritizing clarity, speed, and accountability.
  • Respond quickly to urgent IT issues of all kinds and communicate proactively with users on ticket status from start to finish.
  • Manage a high volume of concurrent requests, working with the broader IT team when needed.
  • Collaborate with IT and Security on automation, process improvements, and documentation to enhance the employee tech experience.
  • Ensure all support activities comply with HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST, and internal security standards.
