IT Systems Administrator

Joerns HealthcareCharlotte, NC
$85,000 - $95,000Hybrid

About The Position

We are seeking a versatile IT Systems Administrator to join our growing technology team. This hybrid role blends network administration, end-user support, and systems analysis into a single position, making it ideal for a well-rounded technologist who enjoys variety. You'll keep our network running smoothly and serve as the trusted go-to for employees who need help. This position will contribute to evaluating and improving the systems that drive our business. This position is well-suited for someone who thrives in a mid-sized environment (50–500 employees) where IT staff wear multiple hats and have direct visibility into how their work impacts the organization. In your first 90 days, you'll have built relationships with team leads across the company, mastered our ticketing system, and become familiar with our network topology and core systems. Within six months, you'll be independently resolving the majority of issues, leading at least one systems-improvement initiative, and contributing meaningfully to IT planning conversations. This is a high-impact role where your work is visible, varied, and valued. You won't be siloed into a narrow specialty — you'll grow your skills across networking, support, and systems work while shaping the IT functionality of a mid-sized organization.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of combined experience in IT support, network administration, and/or systems analysis
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, VoIP systems, AWS architecture, and Microsoft 365 administration
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, VPNs, VPCs, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure
  • Familiarity with endpoint management tools (e.g., Intune, Jamf, or similar)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues across hardware, software, and network layers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and pivot between focused project work and reactive support

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation
  • Exposure to ITIL practices or formal ticketing systems (Jira Service Management, ServiceNow, Freshservice, etc.)
  • Experience working with SaaS administration and SSO/identity providers (Okta, Microsoft Entra ID)
  • Background in business analysis, requirements gathering, or process documentation

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, monitor, and optimize the organization's network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless access points.
  • Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and VPN services.
  • Manage network security through firewall rules, VLAN segmentation, and ongoing patch management.
  • Monitor network performance and capacity, proactively identifying bottlenecks before they affect users.
  • Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures, and document network topology, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees experiencing hardware, software, or connectivity issues, providing both remote and in-person support.
  • Triage and resolve tickets within established SLAs, escalating complex issues as needed.
  • Image, deploy, and decommission desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
  • Onboard new employees by setting up accounts, equipment, and access permissions, and offboard departing staff securely.
  • Maintain the IT knowledge base and create user-facing documentation and training materials, while delivering occasional training sessions on tools, security awareness, and best practices.
  • Evaluate existing business systems and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement, automation, or consolidation.
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders across departments and translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Research, recommend, and help implement new software, integrations, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations, cost-benefit analyses, and proof-of-concept testing.
  • Support ERP, CRM, and other line-of-business application administration, including user provisioning, configuration, and reporting.
  • Contribute to IT roadmap planning and assist with project management for systems-related initiatives.
