About The Position

The MuleSoft System Integration Engineer leads the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of real-time integrations and interfaces among applications at UCSF Campus, UCSF Health, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, and affiliated organizations. These systems support patient care, research, education, faculty, clinical and administrative staff, students, departments, and information services. The engineer works under the direction of the Integration Services Manager and MuleSoft Supervisor and applies advanced knowledge of interfaces, academic, enterprise, and healthcare IT systems, and operational workflows. The role gathers user requirements, defines problems, and translates them into integration solutions that enable reliable data exchange and interoperability among applications, platforms, services, APIs, data sources, and emerging AI technologies. Serving as an integration solutions expert, the engineer helps departments address integration needs, supports existing interfaces, follows IT policies and procedures, and contributes to process improvements and documentation. The role focuses on developing systems integrations using MuleSoft ESB, API Manager, and MuleSoft Agent Fabric, and calls for experience with multiple technologies in distributed, business-critical systems. Strong communication and collaboration are important, as is experience with or interest in integrating AI solutions to optimize operations and advance UCSF IT infrastructure. The engineer will help extend UCSF’s integration architecture to support AI-agent connectivity, orchestration, governance, and interoperability. Using MuleSoft Agent Fabric, the role helps AI agents discover and securely access approved enterprise capabilities, APIs, tools, and data, with appropriate governance, observability, and lifecycle management.
