About The Position

The IT System Integration Engineer (MuleSoft) leads the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of real-time integrations and interfaces among applications used by UCSF Campus, UCSF Health, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, and affiliated organizations. These systems support patient care, faculty, clinical and administrative staff, students, departments, and information services. The engineer works under the direction of the Integration Services Manager and MuleSoft Supervisor and applies advanced knowledge of interfaces, academic, enterprise, and healthcare IT systems, and operational workflows. The role gathers information from users, defines business and technical problems, and translates requirements into integration solutions. It supports existing interfaces and develops solutions that enable reliable data exchange and interoperability across applications, platforms, services, APIs, data sources, and emerging AI technologies. The engineer serves as an integration solutions expert, collaborates with departments and colleagues, follows IT policies and procedures, and helps improve processes and documentation. The position focuses on developing integrations with MuleSoft ESB, API Manager, and MuleSoft Agent Fabric, using technologies suited to business-critical systems in distributed architectures. It also supports AI integration, including secure discovery and access by AI agents to approved enterprise capabilities, APIs, tools, and data, with appropriate governance, observability, orchestration, interoperability, and lifecycle management. UCSF IT Integration Services is the central enterprise integration group serving UCSF and affiliated organizations. The team develops robust, reusable, secure, and cost-efficient integration solutions and provides integration architecture and consulting. Its technologies include Epic Bridges, the Cloverleaf interface engine, MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, MuleSoft CloudHub, and MuleSoft Agent Fabric. The role requires onsite work one day per week, which is described as non-negotiable; it may also involve onsite work on a rotational basis and attendance at events as scheduled by management.
