About The Position

The University of Virginia School of Law is seeking a highly motivated part-time Service Desk Technician to work primarily in the evenings with the Law IT service desk who has excellent customer services skills and a passion for helping others. This person will help the Law IT team with supporting technology in classrooms, seminar rooms, and event spaces within the Law School. This person will also help support the faculty, staff, students and guests of the Law School with computer and software related issues. Provide clear documentation of issues and resolutions into a help desk ticketing system. Shifts will be offered to potential candidates to help the Law IT service desk extend support hours from 4pm-8pm Monday-Friday at the UVA School of Law. A minimum of 12 hours per week commitment is required for this position. There is a maximum limit of 20 hours per week as set by the UVA Student Wage Employment when classes are in session (20 hours total of all assigned student worker positions if working multiple work study assignments in all university jobs combined). The employment period will span the 2026 Fall Semester and eligible for renewal during the 2027 Spring semester. This position is restricted to non-UVA law school students. Student workers may be exposed to class materials that could give an unfair advantage which is why this position is restricted. Pay rate: $21.00/hr.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service/support experience.
  • Experience providing end user consulting.
  • Use of Microsoft Office, mobile devices, Windows or Mac Operating Systems.
  • IT troubleshooting, setup, and configuration is a plus.
  • Individuals without IT experience that possess strong customer service skills may be considered if they are willing to learn on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate completion of nightly checklists for classrooms, seminar rooms, and event spaces
  • Troubleshooting issues with laptop, desktop, mobile devices and software.
  • Trusted to work independently and without supervision at various times.
  • Record system status or message reports from various equipment to the Law IT team for evaluation.
  • Provide basic technical support during events
