IT Support Technician

Hefty Seed CompanySverdrup Township, SD
Onsite

About The Position

This is an on-site role at our corporate office located at 47504 252nd Street, Baltic, SD 57003, approximately 15 minutes north of Sioux Falls. The position requires a five-day-a-week commitment to the office and involves regular travel to other company locations. Some weeks will involve significant time spent traveling rather than at a desk. The typical work hours are between 8 AM and 5 PM, with occasional evening work for upgrades and cutovers. The role becomes busier during planting and harvest seasons, requiring prompt attention to system issues. As one of three IT support staff, you will be responsible for maintaining the IT systems that support agronomists, sales teams, store staff, and office personnel across 52 dealer store locations. The role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of systems that everyone in the company depends on.

Requirements

  • Communication skills: ability to stay calm and clear with frustrated, non-technical individuals via phone, in person, and in writing; explain technical issues in plain language; follow up.
  • Hands-on experience fixing real technical problems.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, and Active Directory (e.g., creating users, managing mapped drives, resetting access, understanding group policy).
  • Networking knowledge: understanding of switches, DNS, and troubleshooting internet connectivity issues.
  • A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
  • Residency within a reasonable commute of Baltic, SD, or willingness to relocate before starting.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications
  • A background in agriculture or experience growing up around it
  • Power BI or CAD experience
  • An innate instinct to help family and friends with their computer problems.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the phone when someone's laptop, printer, or login isn't cooperating — and stay with them until it's actually fixed
  • Set up, image, and deploy Windows PCs; manage users, groups, and permissions in Active Directory and Microsoft 365
  • Configure and troubleshoot network equipment — switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi across our sites
  • Keep servers patched, and keep backups running and verified
  • Support the line-of-business software our teams live in every day — agronomy software, point of sale, and ERP
  • Travel to our other locations to install equipment, fix what can't be fixed over the phone, and check in on the people there
  • Log your work in our ticketing system so nothing gets dropped
  • Teach people. A real share of this job is showing someone how to do the thing instead of just doing it for them.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Yearly bonuses
