About The Position

MICA Corporation is hiring an IT Support Technician to provide front-line technical support across MICA Corporation, MICA Steelworks, and Railhead Underground Products, which together employ approximately 600 people. The role combines conventional desktop support for office staff with substantial responsibility for mobile devices and field applications used by field crews. The position is based at the Riverside office in Fort Worth and is part of a three-person Information Technology department. It reports to the Director of Information Technology and has no supervisory responsibilities. This is a multi-site role requiring regular travel to company locations across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The technician plans work across multiple sites, provides on-site support, deploys and recovers equipment, and works independently away from the home office. Travel is completed within the working day, does not involve overnight stays, and mileage between company sites is reimbursed. The technician is expected to maintain a mobile working kit and be prepared to work from a vehicle or other company locations. The role supports smartphones, tablets, field applications, computers, user accounts, Microsoft 365, device enrollment, and network connectivity. It also includes help desk triage, onboarding and separation tasks, user instruction, documentation, and adherence to company information-security practices. Periodic scheduled weekend work is required for maintenance and migration activities that cannot be performed during business hours. The position may include other duties consistent with the role.

  • Demonstrated experience configuring and supporting smartphones and tablets in a business environment.
  • Working knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11 in a domain environment.
  • Active Directory administration experience, including account creation, modification and disablement; group membership management; password resets and account lockouts; and domain joins.
  • Familiarity with applying Group Policy to a workstation.
  • Practical Microsoft 365 administration experience in the admin center, including license assignment, mailbox and distribution list management, and multi-factor authentication.
  • End-user support experience for Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Ability to trace a connectivity fault from endpoint to wall port to switch, and sufficient understanding of VLANs and wireless networking to describe issues accurately for escalation.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical personnel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between company sites across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.
  • Valid Texas driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation; the posting also specifies a valid driver's license and motor vehicle record with minimal infractions.
  • Ability to work independently at a site without direct supervision and manage time across competing locations.
  • Willingness and ability to pass physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Authorization to work in the United States; the company will not sponsor or transfer visas for U.S. work authorization.
  • Ability to drive to company locations, load and unload equipment, lift and carry computer and peripheral equipment, and install, move, and service equipment in office, shop, and job-site environments.
  • Willingness to work scheduled weekends periodically for maintenance and migration activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting a field or trades workforce in construction, utilities, transportation, or a comparable industry.
  • Ownership of a personal set of hand tools for technical work; this is preferred but not required, and MICA provides tools to technicians who do not have their own.

Responsibilities

  • Travel regularly to company locations throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex to provide on-site support, deploy and recover equipment, and resolve issues that cannot be handled remotely.
  • Plan work across multiple locations, balance scheduled visits with help desk demand, and communicate availability to the IT department.
  • Maintain a mobile working kit with tools, spares, imaging media, and staged devices for work at any site.
  • Configure, deploy, and support smartphones and tablets issued to field crews, foremen, and superintendents.

  • Support field applications, including providing remote assistance to personnel at job sites.
  • Coordinate with the mobile carrier on line activations, replacements, and account changes.
  • Triage help desk requests, resolve issues within scope, and escalate other issues with sufficient documentation.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, printing, account, and connectivity issues for office personnel.
  • Prioritize work according to business impact and communicate expected timelines to affected users.
  • Maintain accurate, current ticket records and close tickets promptly.
  • Build, image, and deploy desktop and laptop computers, and maintain staged inventory for new hires.

  • Perform technical onboarding and separation tasks, including timely account disablement, equipment recovery, and mailbox and file disposition as directed by the responsible manager.

  • Provide one-to-one instruction to field supervisors and crew leads on company technology.
  • Produce and maintain written procedures that enable another technician to repeat the work.
  • Follow and reinforce company security practices, including endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication, security awareness training, and appropriate handling of company data.
  • Identify and promptly report suspected security incidents, including suspicious email.
  • Drive to company locations, load and unload equipment, and install, move, and service equipment in office, shop, and job-site environments.
