About The Position

The IT Support Technician Student provides first-level technical support for staff, faculty, and students. They perform basic troubleshooting, analysis, and resolution across hardware, software, and network environments. The role requires strong technical aptitude, excellent communication, and the ability to collaborate with other teams. The IT Support Technician Student assists with incident resolution, root cause identification, and works alongside more senior technicians to support delivery of technical initiatives. This position is open exclusively to candidates who are registered SAIT students currently enrolled in course CPWK 255 or CPWK 3000.

Requirements

  • Must be a current SAIT student enrolled in and returning to a program in Computing Technology, Information Systems, or an IT related field
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to translate technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Analytical thinker with strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and documentation abilities.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritize in dynamic, multi-tasking environments.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills and commitment to team success.
  • Process-oriented mindset focused on standardization, security, repeatability, and service improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in IT support, endpoint management, or technical operations within an enterprise or higher-education environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience in ITSM systems and ticket lifecycle management (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to technical incidents escalated to the Service Desk, providing remote, on-site, and face-to-face support.
  • Communicates technical solutions in accessible terms to non-technical clients.
  • Performs the setup, configuration, and recovery of endpoint devices and peripherals.
  • Follows established processes for deployment, replacement, and lifecycle tracking of assigned hardware.
  • Builds knowledge in emerging technologies, institutional tools, and IT processes.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and alignment with SAIT First Principles.
