SpaceX is seeking an experienced storage engineer with deep expertise in enterprise storage platforms. The role supports performance-critical, mission-critical workloads such as simulation, telemetry, and test data processing. It involves working with Pure and NetApp storage systems running iSCSI, both hands-on at a keyboard and with physical hardware in an on-premises environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or another STEM discipline and at least 3 years of professional IT storage engineering experience; alternatively, at least 5 years of IT storage engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms: NetApp, Pure Storage, VAST, and HPE Alletra.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

  • Experience automating infrastructure with Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex designs clearly.
  • Experience collaborating with virtualization teams as an infrastructure engineer.
  • Strong understanding of NFS, CIFS/SMB, iSCSI, and NVMe over TCP storage protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain storage infrastructure across high-performance, capacity, archive, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery tiers.
  • Architect and operate high-throughput, low-latency storage and support exabyte-scale file systems, such as VAST, for simulation, telemetry, and high-concurrency workloads.
  • Administer NetApp, Pure FlashArray/FlashBlade, VAST, and HPE Alletra storage systems.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot storage performance across hardware, transport (RDMA), and protocol layers.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving interactions among protocols and operating systems.
  • Manage storage access, data permissions, and access controls across protocols and operating systems.
  • Develop automation and tooling for monitoring, capacity utilization and planning, configuration management, and alerting.
  • Define and enforce standards for storage deployment, performance tuning, and operational management.
  • Collaborate with compute, networking, and application teams to align storage strategies with system architecture and workload requirements.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance, an on-call rotation, and occasional physical installation of hardware.
