About The Position

The City of Oxnard’s Information Technology Department is hiring an IT Solutions Specialist. This opportunity is open only to current City of Oxnard employees in the IT Department. The position provides technical support to City staff, troubleshoots complex issues, and develops technology solutions to meet departmental needs. It also coordinates small-scale initiatives, documents new procedures, and establishes repeatable processes to improve service delivery and consistency. The position combines standard daily technical support with advanced analytical problem-solving for uncommon or undocumented requests. It works as a lateral peer to technical tiers and translates unclear business requirements into actionable IT workflows. The role receives general supervision for routine work performed under established standards and procedures, and specific instructions for non-routine matters and deadlines. The normal work week is Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and alternating Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Depending on assignment, staff may work shifts outside these standard hours and may need to be available for additional hours in response to workload peaks or changing departmental needs. The work environment varies by assignment but is typically an office setting or field work. Hybrid and remote work are not offered. Applicants must successfully complete a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph exam as part of the selection process. The position is full-time, has one current vacancy, is represented by SEIU, has a 12-month probationary period, and is eligible for overtime pay.
