About The Position

The Computer Forensic Specialist works within the Kern County Sheriff's Office. This department-promotional examination is open only to current eligible Sheriff's Office employees who have completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on their most recent employee performance report. The examination assesses training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the work. Assessment may include an investigation, oral examination, and application rating. Applicants must score at least 70% on each examination phase. If an oral examination is required, it will be weighted 100%. Examination components will be administered at the scheduled date, time, and location without exception. The examination will establish an eligible list for immediate appointments in the Sheriff's Office, with additional permanent and temporary appointments as needed. Successful candidates generally remain on the eligible list for twelve months unless the Civil Service Commission specifies otherwise. Admission to the examination requires valid government-issued photo identification. A background check may be conducted, and applicants may be required after an employment offer to complete medical and drug screening at County expense. A valid California driver's license is required at appointment.
