About The Position

The Senior IT SME will lead and accelerate software development in an AI-assisted, high-performance environment. The role requires deep technical expertise in Java (Spring Boot), Angular 21+, PostgreSQL, and AWS architectures, along with experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude or Amazon Q Developer. The position emphasizes using AI tools to generate code and unit tests and accelerate application development while ensuring outputs meet security, cloud architecture, and database standards. Human oversight, technical precision, and quality assurance are essential to delivering secure, scalable, high-performing enterprise software. This position is fully on-site in Washington, DC; hybrid and remote work are not permitted. Candidates must hold an active Top Secret clearance and pass a background check. Additional project- or client-required background checks may be required during employment. The position reports to the Program Manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise in key technologies.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience designing and developing back-end services with Java and Spring Boot.
• At least 4 years of front-end development experience with Angular 17 or higher.
• At least 3 years of PostgreSQL database design, development, and optimization experience.
• Proficiency with AWS tools, services, and cloud architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to work in AI-assisted development workflows, including generating and validating AI-generated code.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including experience refining and optimizing large-scale enterprise applications.
• Strong software architecture design capabilities and ability to guide and correct AI assistants during development.
• Active Top Secret security clearance.
• Ability to pass a background check and any additional background checks required by projects or clients.
• Proficiency with Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse technical teams.
• Analytical mindset and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in dynamic project environments.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements, identify gaps, and coordinate with specialized teams to resolve them.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

• Demonstrated experience with containerization tools such as Docker.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment across environments.
• Proficiency in Agile development, including participation in sprints, standups, and retrospectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and optimize back-end services using Java (Spring Boot) and front-end interfaces using Angular 21+.
• Use AI tools to generate boilerplate code, write unit tests, and perform application modernization tasks.
• Ensure compliance with AWS cloud architecture and PostgreSQL database standards.
• Review, debug, and optimize AI-generated code to prevent integration issues, poor-quality abstractions, and security vulnerabilities.
• Advocate for maintainable code, software versioning best practices, and adherence to project requirements.
• Contribute to the architecture and design of scalable, secure, and efficient software systems, particularly within AI-driven development workflows.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
