About The Position

The IT SME, Senior, leads and accelerates software development in an AI-assisted, high-performance environment. The role requires deep technical expertise in Java (Spring Boot), Angular 21+, PostgreSQL, and AWS architectures, as well as experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude or Amazon Q Developer. The position uses AI-rich tools to generate code and unit tests and accelerate application development, while ensuring outputs comply with strict security, cloud architecture, and database standards. Human oversight, technical precision, and quality assurance are essential to delivering secure, scalable, high-performing enterprise software.

The position is fully on-site in Washington, DC; hybrid or remote work is not permitted. Candidates must hold an active Top Secret clearance. The role reports to the Program Manager and may involve a flexible schedule, travel, or work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in relevant technologies.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience designing and developing back-end services with Java (Spring Boot).
• At least 4 years of front-end development experience with Angular 17 or higher.
• At least 3 years of PostgreSQL database design, development, and optimization experience.
• Proficiency using AWS tools, services, and cloud architecture.
• Ability to work in AI-assisted development workflows, including generating and validating AI-generated code.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including refining and optimizing large-scale enterprise applications.
• Software architecture design capabilities and ability to guide and correct AI assistants during development.
• Active Top Secret security clearance.
• Ability to pass a background check; additional checks may be required by projects or clients during employment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft and Adobe tools, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse technical teams.
• Analytical mindset and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Proactive, adaptable approach and comfort working in dynamic project environments.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements, identify gaps, and coordinate with specialized teams to resolve them.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform duties for extended periods, use a computer and office productivity tools at the required speed, and sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with containerization tools such as Docker.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment across environments.
• Proficiency working in Agile development environments, including participating in sprints, standups, and retrospectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and optimize back-end services using Java (Spring Boot) and front-end interfaces using Angular 21+.
• Leverage AI tools to generate boilerplate code, write unit tests, and perform application modernization tasks.
• Ensure compliance with AWS cloud architecture standards and PostgreSQL database standards.
• Review, debug, and optimize AI-generated code to prevent integration issues, low-quality abstractions, and security vulnerabilities.
• Promote code maintainability, software versioning best practices, and adherence to project requirements.
• Contribute to the architecture and design of scalable, secure, and efficient software systems, particularly in AI-driven development workflows.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
