About The Position

This is an extra help position. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June. Applications will be active for six months. If you are hired for extra help and you complete a work assignment and then you if you wish to be employed again, you must resubmit an Extra Help application online. Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by vocational or technical courses in the operation and maintenance of voice and data radio, and electronic communication equipment.
  • Three years of experience in the installation and maintenance of VHF and UHF radio frequency communication equipment.
  • Knowledge of landmobile communications equipment including mobile and portable units, base station, and microwave systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and FCC regulations.
  • Knowledge of precision soldering techniques for miniature electronic circuitry.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory including transistors, integrated circuits, and microprocessors.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to use precision electronic test equipment to test and repair electronic communications systems.
  • Ability to analyze equipment failures and determine specific electronic component malfunctions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; work tactfully and courteously with others.
  • Ability to obtain competent climber certifications to climb towers.
  • Ability to obtain certificate to operate mobile elevated work platform.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Install and remove communication equipment, component parts, electronic sub-system assemblies, communication cabling systems and antenna installations some of which may be located on 200ft communication towers or poles.
  • Bench and field test new and existing communications and electronic test equipment for accuracy, performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Investigate complaints, repair and adjust all equipment in the field and workshop.
  • Diagnose and locate malfunctions and specific electronic component failure of communication systems and equipment, including operational failure of electrical generators and electronic cabling systems.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of radio repeater sites, weed and fire prevention clearing, pest control, general cleaning within building and solar panel cleaning.
