About The Position

This position is Limited Tenure, meaning employment will be terminated at the established end date (approximately 24 months from date of hire). The employee is expected to stay in this position until the end of the tenure before becoming eligible to transfer to a new position. After the completion of the limited tenure assignment, it is the employee's responsibility to secure another role within Mayo through the job vacancy process, or employment will end. This role leads projects of medium to high complexity, supporting program teams in collaboration with Senior Project Managers and/or Program Managers. The goal is to achieve project objectives and completion on time, on budget, and in conformance with Mayo Clinic IT methodologies and practices. The position involves soliciting technological input from senior technical resources, facilitating technology problem-solving, and managing projects with budgets up to $1 million. Matrix supervision of staff from other IT departments, divisions, and contractor/vendor resources may be required. The role may involve presenting project requests to institutional committees for approval and direction, and supporting senior level project/program managers in strategic planning. The IT Project Manager makes judgments and takes actions to accomplish project objectives with minimal direct supervision, advises other IT staff on project management practices, and demonstrates the Project Focused Culture. Key responsibilities include managing multiple competing objectives, prioritizing tasks, and communicating complex technical information clearly to management and end-users. Strict adherence to budget management and guidelines is essential, and participation in budget development and tracking may be required. Additional job-related functions may be assigned by the immediate supervisor. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship, visa transfer, or F-1 STEM OPT extension.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree and a minimum of 4 years’ experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 7 years’ experience, OR Associates degree and a minimum of 9 years' experience.
  • Experience to include managing projects of simple and moderate complexity involving Information Technology and/or Healthcare disciplines, which includes experience leading projects using PMI Process Groups and Knowledge Areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management certification from a nationally recognized accreditation or certification body, such as the Project Management Institute (PMI) is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience managing projects involving Information Technology disciplines (servers, workstations, applications, programming, testing, software selection, software deployment) highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Leads projects of medium to high complexity, and may also support to projects of high complexity, as part of a program team in collaboration with a Senior Project Manager and/or Program Manager.
  • Responsible to achieve project objectives and completion on time, on budget, and in conformance to Mayo Clinic IT methodologies and practices.
  • Solicits technological input from senior technical resources assigned to their project team(s), and facilitates technology problem-solving activities.
  • Manages projects with budget responsibility up to $1 million, and may require matrix supervision of staff from other IT departments and divisions, and contractor/vendor resources.
  • Contingent upon the project, may present project requests to institutional committees and oversight bodies to receive approval and project direction and input.
  • May support senior level project/program managers in strategic planning processes.
  • Makes judgments and takes reasonable and prudent actions to accomplish agreed upon project objectives under minimal direct supervision.
  • Advises other IT staff regarding project management practices, methods and standards.
  • Routinely demonstrates the Project Focused Culture within the Information Technology department.
  • Manages multiple competing objectives, prioritizes, and communicates complex technical information in clear and unambiguous terms to management and end user personnel.
  • Assures strict adherence to budget management and guidelines of both the Information Technology department and the institution. May participate in the development and tracking of project budgets.
  • Performs additional job-related functions as detailed by immediate supervisor.
