This is a Limited Tenure position with an anticipated end date of 12/31/2027. The Genetic Counselor provides general genetic counseling, and/or pre-and post-testing support for genetic testing. They collect appropriate clinical and family information necessary for risk assessment, identifying appropriate testing, interpretation and follow-up of test results. If appropriate under specific state licensure, the counselor can order and coordinate genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic, laboratory studies as appropriate for a genetic assessment. They serve as a resource to health care providers, laboratories and support staff regarding genetic testing and follow-up. The role participates in the planning, integration, and evaluation of the Genetic Counseling program and services. The Genetic Counselor acts as a liaison to internal and external providers and provides ongoing education relative to genetic counseling services provided at Mayo Clinic. The role also plays an active role in supervision of genetic counseling graduate students, genetic fellows, and other students and trainees seeking genetic knowledge, when applicable.
