About The Position

Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. This position involves identifying, planning, and coordinating various IT systems/software projects, including the selection, acquisition, and implementation of technologies, information systems, and software. The role provides systems expertise throughout the IT development lifecycle, from feasibility analysis and requirements definition to testing, documentation, and implementation. The IT Project Manager will prepare evaluations, proposals, and management briefings, presenting recommendations to the DFAS Chief Information Officer (CIO), IT management, and other DFAS organizations. Responsibilities also include defining operating criteria and monitoring installation and testing to ensure the quality and efficiency of technology, systems, and software.

  • In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements in 12 months.
  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-11) in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Specialized experience for GS-12 level: Installing, configuring, testing and maintaining IT applications in accordance with customer needs and requirements; developing and analyzing product plans, release schedules, and product validity before release.
