About The Position

This is an IT Professional 3 position with the Dept of Motor Vehicles, IT Division located in Carson City. The incumbent will engineer, enhance, and maintain secure, scalable, and efficient Cloud infrastructure, with a focus on leveraging managed and serverless services and applying the Shared Responsibility Model. This position will apply the Well-Architected Framework to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain stable and efficient Cloud architectures and environments, including hybrid Cloud solutions. The role requires experience with programming, infrastructure automation, and the research, analysis, and modification of Cloud-based, enterprise-wide systems and application software. The incumbent will apply engineering knowledge across a broad range of Cloud services, including security, monitoring, compute, networking, storage, and database services. Responsibilities also include maintaining clear documentation of Cloud processes and procedures and proactively developing knowledge of emerging Cloud engineering trends, technologies, and best practices. Under the authority of NRS 239B.010.1(b), the DMV utilizes NRS 205.4605–205.810, NRS 293.504, NRS 293.5045, 6 CFR 37.45, 49 CFR 1572.103, and 49 CFR 384.228 as criteria to obtain an FBI fingerprint clearance check on current and prospective employees. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. The DMV is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Experience with programming.
Experience with infrastructure automation.
Experience with the research, analysis, and modification of Cloud-based, enterprise-wide systems and application software.

Detailed knowledge of basic programming techniques such as table handling and on-line file updates.
Detailed knowledge of general purpose programming languages (in software-oriented positions).
Detailed knowledge of principles, tools and techniques as applied to writing, modifying, and documenting programs.
Detailed knowledge of techniques of diagramming program flow.
Working knowledge of access methods and file structures.
Working knowledge of at least one formal systems design methodology.
Working knowledge of principles of designing test procedures.
Working knowledge of principles, practices and procedures required to develop, design, and implement information system-based solutions in a wide range of problem domains.
General knowledge of project control techniques, including cost estimating and resource scheduling.
Ability to utilize interactive programming techniques.
Ability to logically analyze problems of considerable complexity.
Ability to test and validate information systems.

Responsibilities

Conduct detailed alternative analyses and determine end-user requirements through consultation with end-users, technicians, vendors, management, and others.
Maintain documentation related to the assigned IT specialization’s architecture, operations, and other records of work activities as required.
Maintain current knowledge of technological trends and advancements in the IT field as well as security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics.
Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Under general direction, incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned.
Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
