About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Data Center Technician to join our operations team. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with copper and fiber cabling, troubleshooting physical IT infrastructure, and maintaining uptime in high-availability environments. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that our data center meets its service level agreements (SLAs) and operates efficiently 24/7. This role is currently involved with a Data Center Migration, requiring flexibility to cover two separate Data Centers, sometimes at one or the other. The day-to-day responsibilities include responding promptly to incident tickets and change requests to meet SLA and uptime commitments, installing hardware, servers, network equipment, building server racks/cabinets, coordinating with installing and energizing rack PDUs, and installing and replacing data center equipment components (memory, hard disk/SSD, power supply, etc.) and troubleshooting physical network layer issues.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of total work experience
  • Proficient in MS Office products
  • IT Troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with servers - Virtual, blade and physical (VM Ware, Cisco UCS, HP 3Par)
  • Familiarity with network principles (Cisco)
  • Enterprise Data Center Experience
  • Proficient in copper (Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber (single-mode, multi-mode) termination and testing.
  • Strong understanding of data center workflows, cabling standards (TIA/EIA), and safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift and install physical hardware in racks as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Communication skills are very important- this individual will communicate by email, phone, and instant messaging.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in HP 3Par, Cisco UCS Blade Servers, EMC Storage
  • Experience in Cisco networks
  • Knowledge of data center information management is a strong preference with some type of experience in an inventory management system
  • Troubleshooting knowledge and background in hardware overall

Responsibilities

  • Rigorously follow accepted Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), current ASHRAE and TIA Data Center Standards and Best Practices.
  • Ensure point-in-time accuracy of all Data Center Assets and asset tracking.
  • Work in partnership within the Facility team to coordinate preventative maintenance on owned systems which support the data center.
  • Monitor and maintain data center environmental systems (power, cooling, rack management, connectivity) to ensure consistent uptime.
  • Support provisioning, migrations, and decommissioning of IT equipment.
  • Collaborate with network and systems teams to resolve incidents promptly and meet SLA performance targets.
  • Document all work activity, update asset databases, and maintain accurate equipment labeling.
  • Participate in on-call rotations or scheduled maintenance windows as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, corporate policies and procedures including Information Protection (IP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, ISO, PCI, SOC, and NIST.
  • Respond promptly to incident tickets and change requests to meet SLA and uptime commitments.
  • Install hardware, servers, network equipment, and build up server racks/cabinets.
  • Coordinate with installing and energizing rack PDUs.
  • Install and replace data center equipment components (memory, hard disk/SSD, power supply, etc.) and troubleshoot physical network layer issues.
