About The Position

Under general supervision, performs expert support in one or more of the following Information Technology (IT) areas: hardware and software support, network support, systems administration, research, procurement, and/or training. This position’s primary responsibilities are the implementation and support of all agency computers and related peripherals, Help Desk support and basic system administration.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in computer science and two years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Post high school coursework in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Operation of desktop hardware (PC, laptop and thin-client) and software (MS operating and applications); familiar with local area networks (LAN) and remote access troubleshooting.
  • Principles and operations of management information systems and peripheral equipment (computers, networks, mobile devices, internet, software and hardware applications, printers)
  • Computer hardware and software applications use, configuration, installation and maintenance
  • iOS and Android operating systems.
  • Skill in: Operating, installing, maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of technical computer equipment, and peripherals, including but not limited to desktop computers, audio/visual equipment, mobile devices and wireless access devices
  • Developing and implementing procedures for effective installation and maintenance of computer equipment and applications
  • Asking questions and getting information in order to diagnose network and computer problems
  • Setting up records and tracking methods
  • Experience in building and deploying an image utilizing Clonezilla or other imaging software applications.
  • Experience deploying workstations via Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Ability to: Maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; exercise time-management, documentation, organizational and communication skills
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network and product problems; escalate and ask for assistance to resolve problems
  • Assist in establishing standards for personal computers system resources; analyze and evaluate software and hardware products and upgrades
  • Organize, prioritize, and coordinate workload activities
  • Ability to multi-task and to work under pressure and short timelines.
  • Stay current with new technology developments; recommend appropriate revisions to processes and procedures and make process improvement changes to streamline procedures.
  • Sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.; exposure to confining work space; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work, 24-hour on-call, and stand-by.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, log and track all calls from users related to problems and questions
  • Install new and/or update computer workstations, printers and peripherals, and client software
  • Test desktop computer configurations for incorporation into standards
  • Respond to user requests for hardware or software assistance and help troubleshoot and solve PC and network problems
  • Create, test and deploy computer images
  • Perform workstation deployment via Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Inventory computer equipment and maintain computerized inventory system; orders and maintains computer supplies; prepare equipment for surplus
  • Read hardware and software documentation for the purpose of carrying out core assignments and assisting users with identifying or solving problems
  • Troubleshoot a wide range of client and network problems in addition to repairing personal computers, servers, and peripheral equipment
  • Perform regular maintenance functions to assure maximum performance and reliability
  • Perform software reloads and upgrades for desktop computer systems
  • Develop, enhance and maintain documentation for the Information Technology Division
  • Develop and provide training for IT supported software
  • Schedule vendor maintenance and repair activities
  • Plans and manages agency mobile devices, desktop and laptops
  • Keep current on trends, developments, innovations, and equipment used in desktop systems, anti-virus software, office automation, graphics, spreadsheets, and word processing
  • Assist staff with video conferencing equipment, including setup, testing and scheduling
  • Manage domain user accounts and workstation information
  • Assist with projects as assigned.
