About The Position

SpaceX is seeking an IT Network Infrastructure Engineer to design and support IT systems critical to Starship launch pads. The role covers the physical cabling, network hardware, on-premises compute, electrical enclosures, and data center environments that together support mission-critical control networks. The engineer will work directly with launch automation and controls teams to provide reliable connectivity for critical control systems. Fiber and copper data networks must withstand extreme launch environments and carry operational voice, video, vehicle and payload commanding, ground support equipment telemetry, and other data needed for high-cadence Starship launch operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another STEM discipline and at least 5 years of experience designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining system-level communication architectures; alternatively, at least 7 years of that experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to work in tight quarters and at height.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work long hours and weekends when necessary to support launches and critical-path project timelines.
  • Availability for occasional travel to other launch sites.
  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and incorporate significant design changes quickly.
  • Project management skills, including schedule development, writing scopes of work, reading construction drawings, and creating specification documents.
  • Experience supervising technician or contractor crews implementing designs.
  • Experience configuring and operating TCP/IP-based communication equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, NEC, and TIA/EIA.
  • Knowledge of multimode and single-mode fiber-optic cabling for interior and exterior use, and CAT5, CAT6, and CAT6A copper Ethernet cabling.
  • Understanding of code requirements and fire-protection specifications for cable pathways, including tray and conduit, especially in hazardous-rated locations.
  • Motivation to oversee projects from early design through build and closeout.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to thorough documentation.
  • Proficiency with CAD and/or electrical schematics software.
  • Confidence presenting designs and clearly articulating project goals to internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Own network infrastructure, including product selection, procurement, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor network health, troubleshoot system issues, and determine their root causes.
  • Conduct job walks with customers, vendors, and contractors to gather requirements and develop project implementation plans.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and engineers across programs to create operable, scalable, and maintainable products.
  • Create and innovate solutions for unique Layer 1 challenges.
  • Participate in day-to-day IT systems operations, ensuring functionality and reliability during critical launch windows.
